How long does it take for a baby or child’s high palate to flatten out?

It can take a year or even several years. A baby’s palate is still soft and can change shape with the right stimulation. When the tongue rests properly against the palate (good tongue posture), the palate can gradually lower and widen. Without this stimulation, the palate often remains high.

A high palate that persists may affect breathing, swallowing, or speech development. Habits like thumb sucking, finger sucking, and using a pacifier can also impact the shape of the palate.
